On Thursday the chicks paid a visit to Badgers class. The children from both classes have completed booklets about the lifecycle of a chicken and have monitored the eggs carefully.
It was the turn of Badgers to name the grey and black chicks so we are now the proud owners of Caspar and Wilbur!
The display board outside the classrooms is full of the work the children have done this half term so please feel free to come and have a look!

Week 3 - Hatching Day
As is very typical, hatching day was technically on Friday. We watched the eggs all day and nothing happened. Someone mentioned not going home at the weekend but staying at school with the eggs instead!! We decided it might be better if I take them home and see if they hatch over the weekend. And guess what!!! They have!!
The 2/1s are now the proud owners of 4 (yes only 4 :( ) lovely little chicks!

Week 2
Another sneaky peek inside shows the chicks have grown since last week. The children are now experts at pointing out the chick and air sac. Only 1 week to go. Time to keep our fingers crossed!!
Week 1
With all the snow and days off school week one actually ended up being day 11!! Five of the eggs are fertile and growing.
We have used the candler to look inside the egg and put a picture on the whiteboard so everyone can see at once. The egg would be out of the incubator too long for everyone to look individually.

The eggs are in!
Well after a bit of a false start (6 infertile eggs) we have started again with 12 new ones. It is a bit of a strange time of year to be doing this so we have talked about all the happy and not so happy outcomes that we might get.
The eggs will take 21 days to hatch and will be kept in the incubator in the classroom.
Each week we will use a candler to see whats going on in the egg and the children will keep a record in their books.
I have left my iPad at school so will update photos next week.
